# Best prediction markets in the USA (2026)

> Kalshi is the best prediction market in the US in 2026: a CFTC-regulated exchange with the widest range of event contracts, the deepest liquidity — about 80% of tracked prediction-market volume in September 2026 — and more ways to deposit than any rival. Robinhood, Crypto.com's OG, Polymarket US and Interactive Brokers complete our top five.

## 1. Kalshi — Best overall

Score: 9.6/10 · [Full review](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/kalshi-review/) · [Alternatives](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/kalshi-alternatives/)

Kalshi is the biggest prediction market in the US and the benchmark the others are measured against. It runs its own CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouse, lists everything from NFL games and combos to economics, weather and elections, and handled about $53 billion of volume in September 2026. Taker fees top out at 1.75¢ per contract, most maker orders are free, and cash and positions earn a 3.25% variable APY on balances of $250 or more. You can fund by bank transfer, debit card, PayPal, Venmo or crypto. The drawback is legal: court orders block its sports contracts in Nevada, Michigan and Washington. Pick Kalshi if you want the most markets and the best liquidity.

**Pros:** Deepest liquidity in US prediction markets: about $53 billion traded in September 2026; Runs its own CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouse; you trade directly; Widest market choice, from sports and combos to weather, economics and elections; 3.25% variable APY on cash and positions for balances of $250 or more; Funding by ACH, RTP, debit card, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay or crypto; Most maker (resting limit) orders pay no trading fee.

**Cons:** Court orders block sports contracts in Nevada, Michigan and Washington; Lost key 2026 appeals in Nevada and Ohio/Tennessee sports-contract cases; Taker fees reach 1.75¢ per contract on 50¢ contracts; Debit card deposits may cost 2%; later PayPal and Venmo deposits carry fees; No phone support; help is by chat and email only.

## 2. Robinhood — Best for investors

Score: 9.0/10 · [Full review](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/robinhood-review/) · [Alternatives](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/robinhood-alternatives/)

Robinhood Prediction Markets puts event contracts inside the app millions of people already use for stocks and crypto. Robinhood acts as a CFTC-registered broker, routing orders to Kalshi, ForecastEx, its own Rothera joint venture and, for some football contracts, Crypto.com's exchange, and its customers traded a record 13.6 billion contracts in the second quarter of 2026. Markets cover sports, politics, economics and crypto, with custom football and basketball combos of up to 10 legs. The downsides: a commission of up to 1¢ per contract on top of exchange fees, app-only trading and no sports in four states. Pick it if you want prediction markets next to your investments.

**Pros:** Trade event contracts in the same app as your stocks and crypto; Routes to several CFTC exchanges, including Kalshi, ForecastEx and Rothera; Huge volume: a record 13.6 billion contracts traded in Q2 2026; Custom combos of up to 10 legs for pro football and basketball; Commission capped at 1¢ per contract; Gold halves the rate; Option to hide sports markets, plus self-exclusion from event contracts.

**Cons:** Commission sits on top of exchange fees, so it usually costs more than Kalshi; Trading is app-only; the website is view-only for event contracts; No sports contracts in Maryland, Nevada, Michigan or Washington; Derivatives account approval can take 1–2 weeks; Instant deposits may not be usable; contracts need settled cash.

## 3. Crypto.com (OG) — Best for flexible deposits

Score: 8.6/10 · [Full review](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/crypto-com-review/) · [Alternatives](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/crypto-com-alternatives/)

OG is Crypto.com's prediction-market app and website, launched in February 2026 on the company's CFTC-regulated exchange, North American Derivatives Exchange (NADEX), which has also supplied contracts to FanDuel, DraftKings, Fanatics and Robinhood. It stands out for funding: PayPal, Venmo, debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay with no OG deposit fee, and a $1 minimum by ACH. You can trade sports, politics, crypto and financial contracts, including sports combos of up to 8 legs. The drawbacks: makers pay fees, liquidity is hard to measure, and OG doesn't publish a state-by-state list. Pick OG if flexible, low-cost deposits matter most.

**Pros:** No OG fees on PayPal, Venmo, card, ACH or wire deposits; Low minimums: $1 by ACH, $10 by card, PayPal or Venmo; CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouse offering sports contracts since December 2024; Same exchange has supplied FanDuel, DraftKings, Fanatics and Robinhood; Sports combos of up to 8 legs, including some live combos; Standalone app for iOS and Android, plus og.com on the web.

**Cons:** Makers pay a fee, unlike most maker orders on Kalshi; No reliable public volume figures, so liquidity is hard to judge; No state list; some contracts and combos vary by state; Instant RTP withdrawals cost 1.5%; no PayPal or Venmo withdrawals listed; Lost its Nevada appeal at the Ninth Circuit; Supreme Court petition pending.

## 4. Polymarket — Best for low fees

Score: 8.5/10 · [Full review](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/polymarket-review/) · [Alternatives](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/polymarket-alternatives/)

Polymarket US is the CFTC-regulated US exchange of Polymarket, the prediction-market brand best known for its international crypto site, which is close-only for US users. It lists sports, including player props and combos of up to 10 legs, plus politics, crypto and economics, and traded about $8.5 billion in September 2026, according to DeFi Rate data. Fees are its strength: takers pay at most 1.74¢ per contract, makers earn a rebate, and deposits and withdrawals are free. The drawbacks: funding by debit card, ACH or wire only, no interest, and legal fights, including a Nevada injunction and a New York lawsuit. Pick it if low trading costs matter most.

**Pros:** Taker fee tops out at 1.74¢ per contract, just below Kalshi's 1.75¢; Makers earn a rebate of up to 0.31¢ per contract; No deposit or withdrawal fees on card, ACH or wire; Taker volume rebates of 10% to 50% for high-volume traders; Sports props and combos of 2 to 10 legs, plus politics and crypto; CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouse; about $8.5 billion traded in September 2026.

**Cons:** Only debit card, ACH and wire; no PayPal or Venmo; Blocked in Nevada by court order; sued by New York in September 2026; No interest on cash or open positions; Far less volume than Kalshi, and Android availability is unclear; Card and ACH deposits take 3–4 business days to clear.

## 5. Interactive Brokers — Best for earning interest

Score: 8.1/10 · [Full review](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/interactive-brokers-review/) · [Alternatives](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/interactive-brokers-alternatives/)

Interactive Brokers' ForecastTrader, now branded IBKR Prediction Markets, lets you trade yes/no contracts on economic data, weather, elections and more, mainly on ForecastEx, the CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouse Interactive Brokers owns. Its draw is cost and yield: no commission, a flat 1¢ per contract, and an interest-like coupon of 3.38% APY on your positions. Since May 2026 it can also route orders to Kalshi and CME. The drawbacks: ForecastEx has listed no sports since February 2026, its volume has fallen sharply, you must be 21 or older, and funding is by ACH, wire, check or USDC. Pick it if you want to earn interest while you hold positions.

**Pros:** 3.38% APY incentive coupon on open positions, paid monthly; No commission and a flat 1¢ per contract on ForecastEx; Beats Kalshi's and Polymarket US's standard taker fees from about 18¢ to 82¢; CFTC-regulated exchange owned by Interactive Brokers; no state lawsuits found; One account reaches ForecastEx, Kalshi and CME at the best net price; Pro tools: APIs, TWS algos, 24/7 trading and a free simulator.

**Cons:** No sports contracts on ForecastEx since February 2026; You must be 21 or older to trade event contracts; Thin liquidity: ForecastEx volume is down about 90% since December 2025; Funding by ACH, wire, check or USDC only; no cards or PayPal found; An Interactive Brokers affiliate acts as a market maker on ForecastEx.

## Best for…

- **Sports:** Kalshi — The most sports markets, combos and liquidity of any US platform. Sports contracts are blocked in Nevada, Michigan and Washington, and several other states are challenging them in court.
- **Politics & elections:** Polymarket — Polymarket US lists 2026 midterm House and Senate markets and says it is available in every state except Nevada. Kalshi's politics markets are blocked in Nevada and Washington.
- **Trading from your investing app:** Robinhood — Event contracts sit next to your stocks and crypto in the Robinhood app, with orders routed to Kalshi, ForecastEx and Rothera, an exchange owned by a Robinhood–Susquehanna joint venture.
- **Fee-free PayPal & Venmo deposits:** Crypto.com (OG) — OG accepts PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay and Google Pay from $10 without a deposit fee, and bank transfers from $1.
- **Economics & earning interest:** Interactive Brokers — ForecastTrader pays a 3.38% APY incentive coupon on open positions and charges $0.01 per contract, with deep economic, climate and election markets — but no sports.

## What is a prediction market?

A prediction market is an exchange where you buy and sell contracts on the outcome of a future event — a game, an election, an interest-rate decision, tomorrow's high temperature. Most contracts are yes/no questions that pay $1 if the answer is yes and nothing if it's no, so a contract trading at 62¢ means the market puts the chance at roughly 62%.

Unlike a sportsbook, the platform doesn't set the odds or bet against you. Prices come from other traders, and the platform earns a small fee on each trade. You can also sell before the event is decided, locking in a profit or cutting a loss. Our guide to [how prediction markets work](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/how-prediction-markets-work/) walks through a full example.

## Are prediction markets legal in the US?

Event contracts listed on an exchange regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) are legal under federal law, and every platform in our ranking operates under CFTC oversight. What's contested is sports: many states argue that sports event contracts are unlicensed sports betting.

As of September 30, 2026, the federal appeals courts are split. The Third Circuit sided with Kalshi against New Jersey in April 2026, while the Ninth Circuit (Nevada, August 28) and the Sixth Circuit (Ohio and Tennessee, September 25) sided with the states. Three petitions asking the Supreme Court to settle the question are pending, and none had been granted at the time of writing. Meanwhile the CFTC under Chairman Michael Selig has sued or joined suits against nine states to defend federal oversight, and proposed new event-contract rules in June 2026.

> The practical upshot: platforms remain available in most states, but sports contracts are switched off in a growing number of them. Check the app for your state, never use a VPN to get around a restriction, and read our full guide to [whether prediction markets are legal](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/are-prediction-markets-legal/).

## Where each platform is available

| Platform | Minimum age | Sports contracts | Main restrictions (as of Sept 30, 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| [Kalshi](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/kalshi-review/) | 18+ | Yes | Sports blocked in NV, MI and WA; WA also blocks politics and culture markets; NV also blocks election and entertainment markets |
| [Robinhood](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/robinhood-review/) | 18+ | Yes | No sports contracts in MD, NV, MI or WA (Maryland may block all event contracts) |
| [Crypto.com (OG)](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/crypto-com-review/) | 18+ | Yes | "All U.S. states," but some contracts, including sports combos, are unavailable in some states |
| [Polymarket US](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/polymarket-review/) | 18+ | Yes | Unavailable in Nevada, per the operator; some third-party lists name more states |
| [Interactive Brokers](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/interactive-brokers-review/) | 21+ | No | No state exclusions published; ForecastEx lists no sports contracts |

Availability changes week to week as courts rule and platforms respond, so treat this table as a snapshot and confirm in the app before you deposit.

## How much do prediction markets cost?

Fees are small but add up. Most exchanges charge a fee per contract that depends on the price — highest at 50¢, lower near 1¢ or 99¢ — while brokers add a commission on top of the exchange's fee.

| Cost to buy 100 contracts (as a taker) | At 50¢ | At 90¢ |
|---|---|---|
| Kalshi | $1.75 | $0.63 |
| Polymarket US | $1.74 | $0.63 |
| Crypto.com (OG) | $1.75 | $0.63 |
| Robinhood (Kalshi-listed contract, without Gold) | $2.00 | $1.90 |
| Interactive Brokers (ForecastEx contract) | $1.00 | $1.00 |

Makers — traders whose limit orders wait in the order book — usually pay less: nothing on most Kalshi markets, a rebate on Polymarket US. Deposit and withdrawal fees matter too, especially card deposits and instant withdrawals. Our [prediction market fees guide](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/prediction-market-fees/) has every fee schedule and more worked examples.

## Prediction markets vs sportsbooks

A sportsbook sets the odds, builds in a margin (the vig), and can limit customers who win too often. A prediction market matches you with other traders and charges a visible fee, and you can sell your position before the game ends. On the other hand, sportsbooks are licensed by your state, while sports event contracts are still in legal limbo in many states. Our comparison of [prediction markets vs sportsbooks](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/prediction-markets-vs-sportsbooks/) goes through the differences, including how to convert contract prices to American odds with our [odds calculator](https://safebet.ai/tools/odds-calculator/).

## How to choose the right prediction market

- **Check your state first.** Sports contracts are unavailable on some platforms in Nevada, Michigan, Washington and Maryland, and more states are enforcing.
- **Match the platform to what you trade.** For sports and the widest choice, Kalshi. For economics and interest on positions, Interactive Brokers. For politics, Kalshi or Polymarket US.
- **Compare the total cost.** Add trading fees, deposit fees and withdrawal fees for the way you'll actually fund your account.
- **Think about where your money lives.** Robinhood and Interactive Brokers keep event contracts next to your investments; Kalshi, OG and Polymarket US are standalone accounts.
- **Read the contract rules.** Every market names its resolution source. If the wording is ambiguous, skip it.

## Trading responsibly

Event contracts are real money on uncertain outcomes, and most short-term traders lose money after fees. Set a budget, use the deposit limits and self-exclusion tools the platforms provide, and stay away from offshore sites that aren't regulated in the US. If trading stops being fun, see our [responsible gambling guide](https://safebet.ai/us/guides/responsible-gambling/).

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the best prediction market in the US?

Kalshi is our top pick for 2026. It is a CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouse with the broadest range of markets, by far the most trading volume, and the most deposit methods. Robinhood is the best choice if you'd rather trade inside an investing app. See the [full Kalshi review](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/kalshi-review/).

### Are prediction markets legal in the US?

Prediction markets that list event contracts on a CFTC-regulated exchange operate legally under federal law, and US residents can use them in most states. Sports contracts are contested: as of September 30, 2026, federal appeals courts are split, several states block them, and three petitions are waiting at the Supreme Court. Read [are prediction markets legal in the US?](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/are-prediction-markets-legal/)

### Is Polymarket legal in the US?

Yes, through Polymarket US. It runs on QCX LLC, which the CFTC designated as a contract market in July 2025, and Polymarket says it is available in every state except Nevada. The international polymarket.com is close-only for US users. See our [Polymarket review](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/polymarket-review/).

### Which prediction markets can I use in my state?

It depends on the platform and the market. As of September 30, 2026, Kalshi blocks sports contracts in Nevada, Michigan and Washington; Robinhood doesn't offer new sports contracts in Maryland, Nevada, Michigan or Washington; Polymarket US says it is unavailable only in Nevada; and Interactive Brokers lists no sports contracts at all. Always check the app, because restrictions change often.

### How old do you have to be to use a prediction market?

18 or older at Kalshi, Polymarket US, Robinhood and OG. Interactive Brokers requires you to be 21 to trade event contracts.

### What fees do prediction markets charge?

Most charge a small fee per contract that is highest when the price is near 50¢. Buying 100 contracts at 50¢ costs about $1.75 in fees on Kalshi or OG, $1.74 on Polymarket US, $2.00 on Robinhood and $1.00 on Interactive Brokers' ForecastEx. Our [fees guide](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/prediction-market-fees/) has the full comparison.

### Do you pay taxes on prediction market winnings?

Profits are taxable income, but how event contracts should be taxed is not settled, and platforms report them differently — Robinhood, for example, issues an annual statement rather than a 1099 for event contracts. See our [tax guide](https://safebet.ai/us/guides/gambling-taxes/) and speak to a tax professional.

### How do you rank prediction markets?

We score each platform from 0 to 10 on regulation (25%), markets (20%), fees (20%), liquidity (15%), deposits and withdrawals (10%) and the app (10%). Only CFTC-regulated platforms that US residents can use are eligible. See [how we rank prediction markets](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/how-we-rank/).

## Guides

- [How prediction markets work](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/how-prediction-markets-work/): A prediction market is an exchange where you buy and sell contracts on the outcome of a future event. Each contract pays $1 if the event happens and nothing if it doesn't, so its price — say 38¢ — works as the market's estimate of the probability. You trade with other people, not the house, and you can sell before the event is decided.
- [Are prediction markets legal in the US?](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/are-prediction-markets-legal/): Yes — prediction markets that list event contracts on a CFTC-regulated exchange are legal under federal law and available in most states. Sports contracts are the exception: as of September 30, 2026, federal appeals courts are split on whether states can ban them, several states block them, and the Supreme Court has been asked to decide.
- [Prediction markets vs sportsbooks](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/prediction-markets-vs-sportsbooks/): A sportsbook sets the odds and takes the other side of your bet; a prediction market is an exchange where you trade contracts with other people and pay a fee. Prediction markets often have lower costs on popular markets and let you sell early, but sportsbooks are licensed by your state, while sports event contracts are still legally contested in many states.
- [Prediction market fees compared](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/prediction-market-fees/): Most US prediction markets charge a trading fee per contract that peaks when the price is 50¢: about $1.75 per 100 contracts on Kalshi and OG, $1.74 on Polymarket US, $2.00 through Robinhood and $1.00 on Interactive Brokers' ForecastEx. Deposit and withdrawal fees can matter just as much, so compare the total cost for the way you'll fund your account.
- [How to read prediction market prices as odds](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/prediction-market-odds/): A prediction market price in cents is the market's implied probability: a contract at 40¢ means roughly a 40% chance. To get decimal odds, divide 1 by the price (1 ÷ 0.40 = 2.50); in American odds a 40¢ price is +150 and a 60¢ price is -150. Trading fees and the bid-ask spread make the odds you actually get slightly worse.
- [How we rank prediction markets](https://safebet.ai/us/prediction-markets/how-we-rank/): We score every US prediction market from 0 to 10 on six weighted criteria — regulation and safety (25%), markets and features (20%), fees (20%), liquidity (15%), deposits and withdrawals (10%) and the app experience (10%). Only platforms that US residents can legally use through a CFTC-regulated exchange or broker are eligible.
