What the results mean
The Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa) licenses online gambling in the Netherlands and lists every licensed company with its brands and websites. It also publishes its decisions against illegal sites. The check sorts every site into one of these groups.
- Licensed in the Netherlands On the Ksa’s list of companies licensed for online games of chance, for players 18 and over in the Netherlands. Only the websites the Ksa lists are covered. Licensed sites must check Cruks, the national exclusion register, before you play.
- Illegal: the Ksa acted against it Not licensed in the Netherlands, and the Ksa has fined the company behind it, or ordered it to stop under penalty payments, for offering gambling to Dutch players without a licence. It doesn’t check Cruks, and if it doesn’t pay out there’s no Dutch regulator to turn to.
- Not licensed in the Netherlands Not on the Ksa’s list of licence holders, so it may not offer gambling to people in the Netherlands. It doesn’t check Cruks, Dutch player protection rules don’t apply, and if it doesn’t pay out there’s no Dutch regulator to turn to.

- Search the Kansspelwijzer. Look the company, brand or website up in the Ksa’s list of licence holders: the exact website you’re using must be listed.
- Check its record. The Ksa publishes its sanction decisions, including fines on licensed companies.

How do I know if an online casino is legal in the Netherlands?
Check that the Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa) has licensed the company behind it and lists the exact website you’re using. The Ksa publishes every licence holder, with its brands and websites, in its Kansspelwijzer. This tool checks that list, and the Ksa’s decisions against illegal sites, for you.
Is Skyhills legal in the Netherlands?
No. Skyhills has no Dutch licence, and on October 22, 2026 the Ksa published a €37.25 million fine on the company behind it, EOD Code SRL, for offering gambling to Dutch players without a licence on Skyhills, Instantcasino and ten other sites. See our article on Skyhills.
Is a Curaçao or Malta licence enough to serve Dutch players?
No. Only a licence from the Kansspelautoriteit allows a site to offer online gambling in the Netherlands, whatever other licences the company holds.
Why does the check flag a brand I know is licensed?
Because the address you typed isn’t one the Ksa lists for it. Many brands also run international sites that their Dutch licence doesn’t cover: the Ksa lists unibet.nl for Unibet, for example, not unibet.com. Use the exact address the tool shows.
