Held to settlement, with a winning payout converted back to Canadian dollars unless you hold US dollars. Fee schedules as of October 22, 2026. The spread between the buy and sell price, and the spread in your dealer’s exchange rate, add costs no schedule shows.
How the calculator works
Pick where you trade, enter the contract’s price in US cents and how many contracts you’re buying, and say how you handle the currency. The calculator adds the trading fee to the cost of the contracts, converts the total from Canadian dollars at the exchange rate you enter, adds the dealer’s conversion fee, and does the same in reverse for the US$1-per-contract payout if you’re right. The break-even is the probability you need to be right just to cover every cost.
The currency choice matters because the two dealers charge differently. Wealthsimple takes a percentage of each conversion, so it costs the same however you split it. Interactive Brokers takes a tiny percentage with a US$2 minimum per conversion: expensive on one small trade, cheap when you convert a few hundred dollars at a time and trade from that balance. Choose “Convert in bulk” and enter your usual conversion to see the difference, or “I hold US$” if you already keep a US-dollar balance.

Converted order by order, Wealthsimple is a little cheaper on a trade this size, because Interactive Brokers’ US$2 minimum per conversion is a large share of it. Convert in bulk, or trade from US dollars, and ForecastEx at Interactive Brokers costs least. Our guide to prediction market fees in Canada explains every charge, and our ranking weighs fees against markets, liquidity and the apps.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the calculator ask how I convert currency?
Because it changes which dealer is cheaper. Wealthsimple charges a percentage, 1.5% on conversions under $10,000, so it costs the same however you split it. Interactive Brokers charges 0.2 basis points with a US$2 minimum per conversion, so converting a small amount just for one trade is expensive, while converting $1,000 at a time costs about $2.80.
Does the calculator include selling before settlement?
No: it assumes you hold the contracts until they settle. Selling early costs the trading fee again, US$0.02 per contract at Wealthsimple; on ForecastEx you exit by buying the opposite side for another US$0.01 per contract.
Which exchange rate should I use?
The default is the Bank of Canada’s daily rate. Dealers convert at their own live rate, and Wealthsimple says its rate includes a spread, so the real cost can be a little higher than the calculator shows. Type in the rate your dealer quotes for a closer estimate.
What is the break-even probability?
The chance you need to be right just to get your money back after fees and conversion. Without any costs it equals the contract price, so a 40¢ contract breaks even at 40%. If your own estimate of the probability isn’t above the break-even, the trade loses money on average.
Can I trade fractions of a contract?
At Wealthsimple Predict, yes, and its fee is rounded to the nearest cent. The calculator works in whole contracts, which is how Interactive Brokers trades.
