Why the model likes it

  • Ratings: Nets −7.0, Hornets +3.4 points per game in our blended ratings (last season regressed 30%; this season weighs 0% for Nets and 0% for Hornets).
  • Home court: +1.8 points for Nets.
  • Rest: neither team is on a back-to-back.
  • Projection: Nets 108, Hornets 117 (margin −8.6, total 225) against DraftKings's Nets -1.5, total 218.5.
  • Simulation: Hornets wins in 75.9% of 10,000 simulated games.
  • Market check: DraftKings's price implies 45.7% (vig removed). This early in the season the model trusts the market 50%, so the blended probability is 60.8% against a break-even of 47.6% at +110: an edge of 13.2 points.
  • Form: Nets 0-0, Hornets 0-0.

How it works

How the AI makes its NBA prediction

No black box. The whole model fits on this page, every constant has a source, and the same code runs every day on autopilot.

  1. Public data only

Each morning the job reads the day’s schedule, every team’s points scored and allowed, records and last night’s results from ESPN, plus the DraftKings spread, total and moneyline ESPN publishes for each game.

  2. Team ratings

A team’s rating is its points-per-game margin. Last season’s number, regressed 30% toward average because rosters change, is the starting point; this season takes over as games are played (at 15 games the two weigh the same).

  3. Home court and rest

The home team gets +1.8 points (home teams won 55.1% of games by +1.8 on average in the 2020s). A team on the second night of a back-to-back loses 1.5 points (net rating fell 1.5 points in those games in 2025-26).

  4. 10,000 simulated games

The projected margin and total become probabilities by simulating each game 10,000 times, with the margin varying by 12 points around the projection, the historical spread of NBA results around the line.

  5. The biggest edge wins

Each probability is blended with what the price implies (vig removed): the market’s share is 50% on opening night and fades as this season’s games replace last year’s numbers. Every spread, total and moneyline on the slate is then compared with the break-even probability of its price; the single largest edge is the pick, and the AI Safe Score (50–90) is how far it sits above break-even. Graded the next morning at 1 unit.

Free AI NBA predictions, without the hype

Search “AI NBA predictions” and you will find a hundred sites promising computer picks that “crush the books”. Most show you a score projection and no record. This page does the opposite: one free NBA prediction a day, the exact line it was posted against, the probability behind it and, the next morning, whether it won. A good model beats the closing line a little and wins 54–55% of its spread bets over a season; anyone claiming 70% on NBA sides is selling something.

The daily pick is the public, self-contained version of the NBA model behind our AI NBA picks. Members get 3 picks a day across five sports with written breakdowns, injury context and emergency alerts when a line moves; the free pick uses public team data and the market line only, so it is strongest once a few weeks of results are in and weakest in the first days of a season, when last year’s numbers still carry most of the weight. The AI sports picks guide explains how the full model works, from data to Safe Score.

Use it the way sharp bettors use any model: as one input. Compare the price you can actually get with the model’s break-even (the odds calculator converts any format to a probability), check the injury report, and stake flat. If you want a second free pick each week across all sports, the free weekly pick lands on Telegram every Friday.

FAQ

About the free AI NBA prediction

Is the AI NBA prediction really free?

Yes. One pick is published here every day the NBA plays, with no sign-up, email or credit card. Members of the Full Access Pass get three picks a day across the NFL, NBA, MLB, UFC and soccer, each with a written breakdown; this page is the NBA model on its own, in public.

When is the daily NBA pick posted?

The job runs around 11:00 AM ET on every game day, once the lines are up and last night’s scores are final. The previous pick is graded in the same run, so the record above is never more than a day behind. On days without NBA games the page keeps the latest pick and says when the next one is due.

What data does the model use?

Only public data: each team’s points scored and allowed, record and schedule from ESPN, plus the DraftKings spread, total and moneyline that ESPN publishes. Last season’s numbers serve as a prior that fades as this season’s games pile up; home court adds 1.8 points and a team on the second night of a back-to-back loses 1.5. Then 10,000 simulated games per matchup turn the projection into probabilities. The constants and their sources are listed under “How it works”.

How accurate are AI NBA predictions?

Less than the marketing suggests, and we would rather show you than tell you. NBA lines are efficient: a spread bet at −110 needs 52.4% winners to break even, and a model that wins 54–55% over a full season is doing well. That is why every pick here is graded and published, wins and losses, and why the AI Safe Score shows how far the model’s probability sits above the break-even point rather than a vague “confidence”. Past results never guarantee future results.

Why only one NBA pick a day?

Because the edge is in the selection. The model prices every spread, total and moneyline on the slate (up to 90 markets on a full night) and only the single biggest edge is posted. More picks would mean weaker picks. Members get the full-breakdown version of all three daily picks, NBA included, on the Full Access Pass.

Does the pick account for injuries and lineups?

Not directly. The public model works from team results, rest and the market line, so a star ruled out an hour before tip-off is only reflected to the extent the line has already moved. Always check the injury report and the current price before you bet; a pick that was +3.5 at 11 AM can be +1.5 by tip-off, and the EV calculator tells you when the edge is gone.

Can I bet on this pick?

It is information, not advice. If you do bet, stake flat (we grade every pick at 1 unit), only where sports betting is legal and you are of age (21+ in most states), and keep it fun: our responsible gambling page has limits, tools and help lines.
