What the results mean

The GGL licenses sports betting for all of Germany, and only the web addresses on its whitelist are licensed. The check sorts every site into one of these groups.

  • Licensed in Germany On the GGL’s official whitelist with a German licence for at least one online product: sports betting, virtual slot machines, online poker or online horse-race betting, valid across Germany for players 18 and over. Only the web addresses on the whitelist are licensed, and table games such as roulette and blackjack need a separate state licence.
  • Licensed in one state Licensed only for online casino games (table and live games) by one state, Schleswig-Holstein or Bavaria, and only for players in that state. Online casino games are the one product the GGL doesn’t license: each state decides whether to allow them.
  • Not licensed in Germany Not on the GGL’s whitelist, so it has no German licence for any online gambling product, whatever licence it shows from Malta, Curaçao or elsewhere. Advertising it in Germany is illegal, German player protections such as the €1,000 monthly deposit limit and the OASIS block don’t apply, and if it doesn’t pay there is no German regulator to complain to.

Check any sportsbook yourself in two minutes

  1. Look at the address. Licensed German sites must use a .de address; a .com or other version of a brand isn’t covered by its German licence.
  2. Search the whitelist. The GGL’s list of licensed operators names each company and the exact web addresses its licence covers.
  3. Check the home page. Licensed sites must say on their home page that they hold a German licence and which authority supervises them, and that under-18s may not play.
  4. Watch for warning signs. Bets on elections or TV shows, live bets on the next corner or card, or no €1,000 monthly deposit limit all mean a site isn’t playing by German rules.

A licence from Malta, Curaçao or anywhere else doesn’t make a site legal in Germany. The GGL had 1,843 illegal sites made unreachable from Germany in 2025, and in September 2026 it warned players explicitly against illegal offers such as Platincasino.
