What is Tipico?

Tipico is Germany’s best-known sports betting brand, with an online sportsbook and a network of betting shops; the Tipico Group says it has more than 1,250 shops in Germany and Austria. The sportsbook is run by Tipico Co. Limited in Malta, and ranks #1 in our ranking of the best betting sites in Germany.

A note on our sources: Tipico’s websites block visitors from outside Germany, and the Internet Archive’s copies show only that block page, so this review relies on the GGL whitelist, Tipico’s App Store and Google Play listings, and the Tipico Group’s site.

Is Tipico legal in Germany?

Yes. Tipico Co. Limited was among the sportsbooks licensed on October 9, 2020, the first German sports betting licences, and its current GGL licence of December 9, 2022 covers online betting at tipico.de and betting in shops. It’s on the GGL’s whitelist and also holds a Maltese licence. We found no public warning against it on the GGL’s site as of October 22, 2026. Check any site with our German licence check.

The betting tax: Tipico pays it

Every bet placed from Germany carries a 5.3% tax on the stake, owed by the sportsbook. Tipico says it pays it for customers in Germany: its app listings promise “no 5% betting tax at Tipico (Germany only)” and that “at Tipico you win 100%”. So a winning €100 bet at odds of 2.00 pays back €200, where a book that deducts the 5.3% tax from winning bets would pay €194.70. Tipico’s listings round the rate to 5%; the statutory rate is 5.3%. Sports, markets and features

Tipico’s app listing puts football first, with the Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga, 3. Liga and DFB-Pokal alongside the Premier League, Serie A, LaLiga, Süper Lig, Champions League and Europa League. It also covers the NBA, NHL, NFL and MLB, tennis Grand Slams and tours, Formula 1 and handball. You can place single, combination, system and live bets, follow your bets in Mein Livescore, bet on long-term outcomes such as the title race, and settle bets early with Tipico Cashout. Its listings don’t mention a bet builder or streaming. As everywhere in Germany, live bets are limited to the final result and the next goal, set or similar.

Deposits and withdrawals

We couldn’t check them. Tipico’s payment and help pages are blocked outside Germany, and its app listings don’t name payment methods, minimums or withdrawal times. Check them in the app before your first deposit.

App and experience

Tipico’s app is the most popular sportsbook app in Germany by far: 4.72 out of 5 from 425,116 ratings on the App Store and 4.65 from 92,168 on Google Play, with more than a million downloads (October 22, 2026). It puts your favourite competitions first and sends push notifications for your bets.

Safety, responsible gambling and support

As a licensed sportsbook, Tipico applies Germany’s safeguards: the €1,000 monthly deposit limit across all sites, the 24-hour panic button and OASIS self-exclusion. Its app listings point to its player protection page, but we couldn’t read it or its support hours from outside Germany.
