What is Winamax?

Winamax is a French betting and poker brand. In Germany it offers sports betting only, run from Paris by WINAMAX SA. It ranks #2 in our ranking of the best betting sites in Germany.

Is Winamax legal in Germany?

Yes. WINAMAX SA has held a German sports betting licence since June 29, 2021; its current licence was granted by the Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt on December 8, 2022, for betting online through its website and app, under the GGL’s supervision. winamax.de is on the GGL’s whitelist. We found no public warning against it on the GGL’s site as of October 22, 2026. Check any site with our German licence check.

The betting tax: Winamax pays it

Every page of Winamax’s German site advertises “0% Wettsteuer”: Winamax pays the 5.3% tax on stakes itself, so a winning €100 bet at odds of 2.00 pays back the full €200. Winamax also says a study by Odoxa of 2,967 football, tennis and handball games between April and August 2025 found it had the best odds on 45% of them; that’s Winamax’s own claim. Sports, markets and features

Winamax’s betting programme listed 25 sports on October 22, 2026, from football, with over 1,200 matches open, to basketball, ice hockey, tennis, handball, American football, volleyball, darts, rugby, Formula 1 and winter sports. Winamax TV streams selected games free on your account, on computer, phone or tablet. You can bet live within Germany’s limits, cash out, and add selections to a bet you’ve already placed (“Wette ergänzen”).

Deposits and withdrawals

Deposits carry no fees and start at €1 by Visa, Mastercard or Apple Pay, €10 by paysafecard, €15 by PayPal, Klarna or Skrill and €30 by Neteller, or any amount by bank transfer. Withdrawals are stricter: only to a bank account in your own name in the EU or EEA, and only once your registration is complete; until then, deposits are capped at €100 and withdrawals aren’t possible. Winamax doesn’t publish withdrawal times.

App and experience

Winamax’s app is rated 4.64 out of 5 from 2,680 ratings on Germany’s App Store and 4.54 from 885 on Google Play (October 22, 2026): well rated, but used by far fewer Germans than Tipico’s or Betano’s.

Safety, responsible gambling and support

Winamax offers more limits than most: a maximum per deposit, maximum stakes per day or month, a cap on the number of deposits per day, week or month, maximum losses per day, week or month, and an automatic withdrawal threshold, a reserve amount for your account above which winnings are paid out. You can exclude yourself temporarily or permanently (a permanent exclusion closes your account for three years), register with OASIS through Winamax, and use the 24-hour lock.
